Open Standards law approved in Portugal

12 de Abril de 2011

The Portuguese Parliament approved on the 6th of April 2011 a Law for the adoption of Open Standards on public IT systems. This law represents the consensus reached by the represented parties following two proposals submitted by PCP and BE, that were discussed and merged on the Working Group that produced the final text.

Since technical aspects related to the implementation of this Law are still to be written by AMA (Administrative Modernization Agency) we will, for now, limit our statement to the congratulation of all parties that have participated on this project, working out their differences towards the very needed compromise text.

ESOP hopes this is truly the first step into the end of interoperability problems that make IT systems excessively expensive and hard to operate.
